What is stem cell baldness therapy
For years, men have looked for a cure for baldness. While looking for that cure, product after product has been sold, promising to retard the balding process, bring it to a stop, or regrow new hair. The problem is, many men find they have little to no results when using these products. Whether Propecia, Rogaine, or a laser comb, men are still forced to either succumb to an expensive hair transplant (with varying results) or simply find peace with their baldness. However, with stem cell baldness therapy, the cure could be closer than you might think.
Starting with research done in 2004, scientists identified the presence of stem cells in the hair follicles of mice. What they found next was even more encouraging. They were able to take the stem cells and move them into the skin, producing new follicles that were capable of producing hair growth. This discovery led to the natural conclusion that this type of tissue generation might be possible in humans. If so, it could lead to a new benefit in baldness therapy.
Of course, stem cells have been the target of a great deal of controversy, particularly in the United States. This is mostly due to the fact that so much scientific emphasis has been placed on embryonic stem cells. Seeing as how these cells must be extracted from fetuses, the entire movement has been caught up in the abortion controversy, thus slowing progress. The good news is that scientists are now starting to realize that adult stem cells may have many of the same benefits as embryonic stem cells. Furthermore, the stem cell theory of renewal states that a distressed organ may cause the bone marrow to produce more stem cells, which can then be transported to the organ, making regeneration and healing possible.
With these exciting new discoveries being made, it’s not surprising that many men are anxiously awaiting the next possibilities when it comes to stem cell baldness therapy. While nothing is for certain, it goes without saying that this field is likely to produce better results than most of the therapies that have come before. In due time, we could see a real cure for baldness out of the manipulation and study of adult stem cells.
